Local Amenities in Drymen

Dining out in Drymen:

When self catering Drymen, we would recommend you try the following establishments for wining and dining.

The Winnock Hotel has a formal restaurant and food is also served in the lounge bar. Amongst other things the local Petonque society meet every week. Regular Murder Mystery Dinner nights, pub quizzes and during the summer season the Sunday night ceilidh are among the many attraction this friendly little hotel run. The beer garden at the rear is decked, has a canopy and accepts dogs.

The Buchanan Arms Hotel has a formal restaurant, providing excellent local Scottish fare. A comprehensive sports/ gym complex is available to both residents and non-residents, pop in for full price list.

Browns of Drymen is a newly opened (November 2006) Scottish restaurant with both a La Carte and Table d'hote menus, they have a comprehensive selection of locally sourced foods. www.brownsofdrymen.co.uk

The Clachan pub serves excellent value food in the Lounge Bar, it is best to book a table in advance as this - the oldest drovers inn in Scotland - is very popular with both locals and visitors alike. The steaks are fantastic, as is the rest of the menu of course. The main bar is a small room, full of lively chatter, it's well worth experiencing the melting pot of local and often international chatter you'll find here, it's very friendly.

The Pottery tearoom, is a popular meeting place for locals, as well as many who come from far and wide, it serves light meals and home baking. A must have is one of their huuuuuge meringues, just too good to describe. A small active pottery where the tearooms take their name is in the grounds and visitors are welcome to visit and buy the products created there. A small pub above the Pottery is also open with a full licence.

Dining in Croftamie (3 minutes by car):

The Wayfarer, good pub food, not as busy and bustling as the Clachan, so if you're looking for a quieter place to eat or drink it is probably worth considering.

Dining in Dumgoyne (7 minutes by car):

The Oakwood Garden Centre (strictly speaking it is classed as Killearn), refurbished February 2007 and has a first class licensed bistro, which has very sensible prices, open for breakfast from 10.00am, through lunch until afternoon teas at 4.00pm. A wall of glass gives an enviable view towards Dumgoyne hill, built from stone reclaimed from a building on the east coast of Scotland.

The Beech Tree, in the summer is a fabulous place to spend a few hours. Sitting in their beer garden - literally a garden, with doves and other bird life milling around - eating freshly prepared meals in a relaxing child friendly environment (children’s' play area provided). The Beech Tree's the first pub on the west highland way, so many thirsty walkers rest and recuperate here before heading onto the next stop in Drymen. Why not visit the Glengoyne Distillery on the way to make a really enjoyable relaxing day.

Dining in Balmaha (7 minutes by car):

The Oak Tree Inn - is a new development, but you would never have guessed, it has been very sympathetically designed to fit in with the local area. A large bar and dining area as well as outdoor seating area make this a great place to stop and enjoy the high quality food offered by this establishment. Last year above the door of the outside eating area a pair of swallows had nested, and it was a joy to watch them dart in and out with food for their young as you sat eating and drinking at your leisure.

Dining in Gartocharan (9 minutes by car):

The Hungry Monk - big portions, in a friendly atmosphere.

Dining in Kinlochard (5 miles north of Aberfoyle) NOT exactly local to Drymen (25 minutes by car) but you really must go here:

The Wee Blether Tea room is a hidden gem on the banks of beautiful Loch Ard. The sandwiches and homemade cakes and pastries are amongst the best we have ever tasted, and simply should not be missed. Watch the lochside wildlife whilst enjoying Shona's prize winning and mouth watering Scottish baking. However don't sit beside the baking dresser - you'll want to eat a piece of everything you can see, oh and ask Shona to sing, she might just oblige. Open 7 days - 10.00am - 4.00pm.
